The fictitious character Olivertwist was born(p) into extreme poverty. As deuce writes It remained amatter of considerable doubt whether the child would survive to bearany name at all. Charles Dickens had beginning hand experience ofpoverty his parents were imprisoned for a year for being offenders ofthe poor laws- they hadnt enough money to support their family andgot into debt, which they couldnt pay. So Charles spent most of his epoch walking around the dirty back streets of London, where hewitnessed a great deal of poor people who had been reduced tocriminals, prostitutes and beggars who lived surrounded by pov erty, disease and devoted children whose parents were either dead or notable to look after their offspring financially. The vast division insociety of lower and upper classes influenced Dickens to write to tellother people what the conditions for the poor were really like. He hadto be subtle he didnt want to alienate his upper class audience. Sohe wrote a novel, revolving around memorable characters and places toentertain his audience. Dickens knew that people learnt more and weremore willing to listen whilst being entertained, so he wrote flooras entertainment. Dickens audience consisted of two groups thesub-literate who were the poor that attended his readings as theycouldnt read, and the... ...e white waist coatedgentleman was right or not, I should perhaps indulge the interest of thisnarrative (supposing it to possess any at all), if I ventured to hintjust yet, whether the life of Oliver Twist had this violenttermination or no. Dickens was uncertain of who Oliver was going to turn out to be until the novel was well established. He was planningthe story as he went along, writing each chapter one at a time instead ofplanning the whole novel.Overall, Oliver Twist is one of the great novels written with a desireto send a sum out to people, and a message that changed peoplesperspectives of poor life in those propagation, which I believe is thereason that it is remembered so well to this day. From reading thisbook I have learnt about the circumstances of those times in a way notpossible from reading a textbook. I saw it through a childs eyes.
